Fresh Meat Monday - Midas Fall

Would you care to introduce yourself?

We are Liz and Rowan, two fifths of Midas Fall, vocals and guitar respectively. We rehearse in Edinburgh, but are often strewn around the country for one reason or another.

How would you describe the music you make?

Most of our songs are quite big and soundscapey, but there are some quieter ones, there are some with electro influences, and there are some that build up into quite heavy numbers, like ‘Stalking Moon ‘ for example. I think mostly they’re post-rock influenced with prog structures and big lady vocals.

How did you start out making music?

Rowan tried to poach me from my old band, and eventually that band split up, so we started writing stuff together. We embarked on a few different projects, went through a few names and have had more line up changes than the Sugababes, but somewhere along the way things fell into place.

What process goes into the way you write songs?

One of us will write the skeleton of a song, or just a riff and we’ll build from there. We try not to be too precious about things, we’re quite brutal with chopping bits out, restructuring or scrapping tunes altogether. When we were recording the album we scrapped two finished and two part-finished songs, and started again.

What can people expect from your live shows?

Hopefully a great, big, epic treat with no technical issues or general confusion as to what the hell we’re doing.

What are you all listening to at the moment?

The Unwinding Hours, Bat For Lashes, God is an Astronaut, Mew and Mogwai.

What can we expect to see/hear from you in 2010?

Our album is out on the 20th April worldwide, we’re touring the UK in May and Europe later in the year, so lots of shows coming up. We’re currently in the throes of putting together a music video and preparing for our upcoming show with MONO at Oran Mor in March.
