Fresh Meat Monday - Oliver Stays

Would you care to introduce yourself?
Personally, I'm Colyn, though if you're seeking the name of the band, which I suppose is far more likely, the name is Oliver Stays. We're four guys based in Glasgow (sort of, but let's not get into that technicality) and we're derived from a bunch of failed projects
How would you describe the music you make?
We like to throw both melody and noise into the same track. The antithesis of this sonic bliss and terrorism is basically all we are. We use a wall of synths, a drum-pounding-monkey and some bassy guitars to back up Johns beautiful wee Clydebank accented angelic voice to make something we hope is energetic and catchy.

How did you start out making music?
With our prior acts going the way of Big Brother, John and I started firing song over to each other via the internet. He especially liked an idea that I had so he took it and cherry-topped it with his vocals. From then on, it's all flowed pretty easily.

What process goes into the way you write songs?
It's all done online. We're yet to share a room while writing or recording. Once John or I have the skeleton for a song, we'll fire it out to everyone else for them to record their own parts. Once this is all done, we send the individual files for John to sing over then mix.

What are you all listening to at the moment?
A lot of Dylan Moran, Sean Lock, Kevin Bridges, Stephen K Amos and, we know it's a little old now, but a bit of Tommy Cooper.

What can we expect to see/hear from you in 2010?

We only started in November 2009 but we've hit the ground running like a base jumping kitten or something. In February, we have seven shows consisting of a seven song set. After that, we'll get back to writing and hopefully just get stuck into the live scene like a famished dug wi' a pun a' meat.

Oliver Stays have the following gigs lined up in February

21st - The Tunnels, Aberdeen 24tg - The Doghouse, Dundee 25th Cabaret Voltaire, Edinburgh 26th Greenside Hotel, Fife 27th The Classic Grand, Glasgow 28th Harley's, Bathgate
