Ones to Watch in 2010 #3 - Panda Su

I can be pretty stubborn some times, quite often it is to my detriment, no matter how much something is staring me in the face I'll ignore it or even dismiss things off hand. Last April I went to my first ever Homegame, the festival run by Fence Records. I remember seeing the name Panda Su and immediately dismissing the name. Even after continually seeing her badges all over the place and thinking that they looked quite cool and quirky, I still couldn't be bothered to find out more.
Then the wonderful folk over at Glasgow Podcart started mentioning Su, and still I wouldn't listen. I really don't know why or how I managed to let her pass me by. Stubbornness I guess. It wasn't until a couple of months back that I finally got my finger out and gave her myspace a wee listen, it was at this point that I realised what a muppet I'd been. Her voice is quite simply stunning, both live and on record, her EP 'Sticks and Bricks'. Her songs have that special trick of being able to break your heart whilst making you feel unbelievably good.
In a world where we are force fed our new female indie starlets, this years bland offering that folk will buy from Asda being Ellie Goulding (yawn), then here is a real alternative. If you want something truly inspiring to satisfy your ear buds look no further than the wonderful Panda Su.

Would you care to introduce yourself?
An Ailuropoda melanoleuca who writes and performs music under the pseudonym of Panda Su. I've been around for about 14 months and currently reside in a little house by the sea, in the sunny region of Fife.

How would you describe the music you make?
Zoo Pop/Folk/Children's Music

How did you start out making music?
I used to write my own lyrics to songs like Greensleeves and Edelweiss on my Yamaha keyboard when I was about 7 years old. I decided to put up some demo's on Myspace - and the rest is history.

What process goes into the way you write songs?
The music comes first and then the words. I don't like writing about things in an obvious way so I use lots of metaphors and similes to make it interesting. But mainly, to confuse people.

What can we expect to see/hear from you in 2010?
I've been a bit quiet recently as I've been trying to get some things organised for the coming year. Hopefully, you'll be able to hear my music at some top festivals around the country and there's a new EP and a UK and European tour in the pipeline too.

Lastly, the question that’s on everyone’s lips is it possible to blow a balloon up under water?
